Statement of the NKPJ on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

Standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people

In the spirit of international solidarity, moral consistency and resistance to injustice and repression New Communist Party of Yugoslavia-NKPJ expressing its full support to the people of Palestine in their just struggle for survival and recognition of an independent Palestinian state.
Families of tens of thousands of the victims of Israeli occupation, including the wounded and those in prison and countless others, those who were forced to leave their homes or to lose their homes and properties, are hoping that you will exert all possible efforts to reach the just demands of the Palestinian people.

Palestine is not just a geographical term; it is not just country in the Middle East. Palestine is wherever there is grossly tramples of freedom and independence of small nations by imperialist boots.
The Palestinian people are urgently requiring end of occupation and colonization of Arab countries; to recognize the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; to respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes as required by UN Resolution 194. Recognition of Palestinian state is not an option but an obligation of all UN member states.
We remind you that Israel is a country that for more than 40 years, contrary to the resolutions of UN, and with open or tacit approval of EU and US politicians, has been occupying territories of Palestine – the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza Strip. Also, in these occupied areas Israel hardly violates an international law including the 4th Geneva Convention, which is intended for the protection of civilians. The Palestinian people are facing daily with the various forms of collective punishment, killing of people, intentional and unnecessary destruction of property, kidnapping and violence against civilians, and daily oppression and destruction of all sectors of Palestinian society by Israel.
Since 1948, over 500 villages have been destroyed or depopulated. Refugees have fled to neighboring countries while those that remain in the West Bank and Gaza sit in what is effectively the world’s largest open air prison. Many Palestinians still dream of returning to their villages and continue to keep the keys to their historic homes as a memento of what was lost; however, while Israel guarantees the right of return to Jewish people, that guarantee is not extended to the thousands of Palestinian refugees and their descendants who were displaced during the colonization of Israel.

If we claim to truly care about peace and democracy, then we cannot remain silent on the Palestinian oppression. Palestinians deserve to be able to live in peace in their own homes without the threat of being displaced by settlers or detained by a foreign military.  we must push for the end of apartheid conditions in Israel and the transition to a secular state with equal protections for all its inhabitants.

We must stand in solidarity and share the dream of a free Palestine!
